Classification of books following DDC latest edition (presently 23rd ed.).Before consult DDC, we check our database and provide the earlier class number in case of same title if found.
Cataloguing of books following AACR-II.
Prepare Subject Heading following Library of Congress Subject Heading.
Preparing / Update Database using Koha software.
Generating Bar-Code using Koha software.
Classify books as Reference ,Rare,General etc.
Update database for the classified books also for Binding, Lost Books etc.
Stamping ,labeling ASB seal and spine-label.
Generate list of new arrival of books which includes bibliographic details including Abstract.
Put hard-copy of new arrivals into display board (weekly).Simultaneously those books are kept for 'New Arrival' Display.
New arrivals list with bibliographic details are updated on ASB Library blog(http://asblibrarytvm.blogspot.com/)
Send this list to the ASB academic community through g-mail (weekly).

FACILITIES IN ASB LIBRARY

Digital Resource Centre
The Library has a separate Digital Resource Centre to provideaccess to Internet and other digital resources. This is now beingfully utilized by the academic community of ASB.

Fully Automation

The library is automated with KOHA Open Source Library System. Thesoftware is installed in the Linux platform (Debian) in the servercomputer and is accessible through all the nodes in the Librarythrough the Wi-Fi network

Air Conditioning

The Library is fully air conditioned to provide a betterenvironment for serious learning and to preserve the librarymaterials and equipment from dust, heat and pests.

Wi-Fi Internet

An Internet connection with 8Mbps speed has been installed in theLibrary and is provided to the users through the Wi-Fi network in theLibrary. It will soon be switched over to 10Mbps connection providedby the INFLIBNET.

Reprography

A photocopier with network printer is installed in the library.The users can avail the facility of photocopying service provided inthe Library. The users can also take print outs of documentsdownloaded through Internet.

5. All Members, who wish to avail the books borrowingfacility from ASB Library.

7.Only bona-fide members areallowed to use the Library. Members must always carry their ID cardswhile visiting the Library.

8.Visitors, research scholars andmembers of other institutions may be granted reading and referenceprivileges at the discretion of the Librarian.Such users must seekpermission in writing for using the privileges.

9.The Librarymembers must obtain “No Dues Certificate” from the Librarianbefore relinquishing membership or leaving the Institute due toCompletion of course, resignation, retirement, transfer, deputation,etc. It is a must for settling the dues with the Accounts Sectionof ASB Library.

10.Any violation of rule(s) may lead tocancellation/suspension of membership.

LIBRARY GENERAL RULES

Thefollowing are the important rules for the library:

1.A persondesirous of using the Library shall enter his/her name, batch andtime of entry legibly and put signature in the Visiting Register kept at theentrance for the purpose.

2.Strictdecorum and discipline must be maintained in the Library. Membersmust carry their ID card while using the Library.They must showtheir ID card on demand.Users must ensure that rights of other usersof the Library are not breached in anyway by their own acts ofcommission or demission.

3.Use ofCell phones is not allowed. If readers wish to keep them while usingthe Library, they must be switched off.

4.Smoking,eating, sleeping and talking loudly are strictly prohibited in theLibrary

5.Anon-member can use the library materials in the Library premises withthe permission of the Librarian.

6.Readersmust not bring sticks, umbrellas, briefcases, boxes and other sucharticles into the Library. They may be deposited at the Libraryproperty counter.The users are advised not to leaveexpensive items with the property counter.

7.Documentstaken out of the shelves must be left on the table. Replacing the documents on shelves by users is not encouraged as the documents mayget misplaced.

8.Readersshould not mark, underline, write, or tear pages or damagethe library documents.

9.Readersare requested to handle all Library property carefully to avoiddamage to it and also not to disturb other readers/users.

10.NoLibrary material can be taken out of the Library without permissionof the Librarian.

11.Photocopying service is available for members of the libraryat nominal charges. All photocopying must comply with copyrightlegislation. Some items in the Library cannot be copied because ofcopyright laws, poor condition, or donor restrictions.

12.Bookstaken from the shelves by students, if not required for reference,should be kept on the table nearest to them. Please do not try to shelve them yourself. Please remember that a book misplaced is consider as same as a lost book.

13.Thediscretion/decision of Librarian on any matter pertaining to Libraryservices will be binding on the Library users.

14.Anyonewho violates the rules and regulations of the Library may be debarred from using the Library facilities or other punishments due forbreach of law or forms of public order and decency.

15.TheLibrarian, with the approval of the Management of Asian School of Business, reserves the right to add, delete, or modify any of theserules as and when required.

16.Suggestionson all aspects of library services are welcome.

Loan Privilege
1 Five Readers Tickets(3 Regular cards &2 Reference cards )and so five books are issued for two weeks and they must be returned on or before the last date stamped on the date-slip ofeach document. Sending reminders to defaulters is not obligatory onthe part of the Library.

2.For the lossof Readers Ticket, a fine of Rs.20/- each will be charged.And issuinga duplicate Readers Ticket.

3.Theborrower should check the fitness of the document before getting itissued. Any discrepancy should be brought to the notice of theperson at the Circulation Counter who will put necessary remarks onthe document before issuing. The borrower will be held responsiblefor any defect/damage found at the time of return of the document,if not recorded on it earlier, and will be liable to pay the penaltyas decided by the Librarian.

4.Anydocument issued, may be recalled by the Library before the due dateof return without assigning any reason and the borrower has to abideby the decision.

5.If a bookis not returned within the loan period, issue of documents may bestopped.

6.Late feeof Rs 5/- /day/book would be charged from all the borrowers who retain book(s) beyond the due date. Librarian may exempt the late feedepending upon the circumstances of delay, any human error inissuing a book by the library circulation staff, etc.

7. Wherebooks are not returned by the due date, then after the 3rd reminderthe borrower will be charged cost of the book plus the fine and 10per cent of cost of the book as processing charges.

8.Borrowerscan get the book(s) reissued on or before the due date by intimatingthe Library through telephone/letter/email. Overdue books will notbe reissued.

9.Books willbe reissued for not more than two times. After that the borrower must return the book(s).

10.Referencebooks, journals / periodicals, magazines/newspapers, CD-ROM databases and other documents declared “For Reference” by theLibrarian will not be issued.

11.Documents,belonging to ‘Reference’ category, are not issued.

12.Memberscan reserve the documents they desire to borrow by filling in the ‘Reservation Slip’ or online. Intimation about the availabilityof the document(s) will be given to the members when they areavailable for issue. The reservation will be strictly on first-come-first-served basis.

13. Theborrowers are advised to return the documents while proceeding onlong leave.

14. Aborrower is responsible for the safe custody and return of thedocuments borrowed from the Library.

15. In caseof manageable damage/mutilation of the document, the borrower will be liable to pay the amount as assessed by the Librarian.

16. In caseof loss of document(s)/ irreparable damage/ mutilation of document,the borrower will be liable to pay the present cost of the book(s)and 10 per cent of the present cost of books as processing chargeand late fine, if any.In case of foreign publications, currentexchange rates of relevant foreign currencies will be applied tocalculate the cost of the documents. The member may also replace thelost/damaged book(s) by a new copy with same edition with 10 per cent of the present cost of books as processing charge with latefine, if any. In case of loss/damage/mutilation of a volume of amulti-volume set, the borrower is liable to replace the whole setwith the same edition in case the single volume of the set cannot bepurchased. In case of rare or out of print or valuable documents,the amount of penalty will be decided, on case-to-case basis, by the Librarian Replacement by photocopied version will not be accepted.

17.TheLibrary membership may be suspended / cancelled at the discretion ofthe Librarianfor any inordinate / unwarranted / unscrupulous act or illegal behavior of a member.

TheLibrary has laid down collection development policiescovering all formats of learning resources with an aim to develop andsustain a world class library in the area of business andmanagement.We pay particular attention to the reading lists and thesuggested course requirements of our institution ASB. All the learningresources held at the Library been selected after carefulconsideration with regards to their content, coverage and treatmentto the subjects.

TheLibrary's mission is to provide high quality informationservices in support of teaching, learning and research at ASB andstrengthen its position as one of the world class library for thesocial science and management researchers nationally andinternationally.

Objectivesof Collection Development:

Insupport of its mission the Library has the following objectives forcollection development:

to collect, record, conserve and make available significant published material in the business and management.
to collect, record and make available published materials which support the courses taught by ASB.
to support teaching and research in the fields of Business and Management.
to acquire non-book materials that are of value for original research in the social sciences and management and to record, conserve, and make them available.
to support research level programs of ASB.

Principlesof collection policy:

The Library collects significant material in business and management on a worldwide basis.
All courses taught at the ASB are supported.
Interdisciplinary implications: Areas that have interdisciplinary implications are: Business/Economics, Organizational Behavior/Psychology and International Business/Marketing.
The collection must support pure and applied research at the research level ,master's degree candidates level including all types of management, public and private sector, profit and non-profit organizations: microeconomics, leadership, organizational analysis, ethics and social responsibility, communication, team-building, managerial and financial accounting and control, operation research,designing and managing organizational change , organization performance improvement, business process re engineering, production and operations management, entrepreneurship, e-commerce, financial statement analysis, investments, design and evaluation and management of modern complex financial instruments such as options and other derivatives, management of financial institutions, venture finance, marketing, marketing research, product innovation, consumer behavior, distribution channels, supply chain management,globalization, international and multinational business, organizational and industrial psychology, human resources law, management and development, quantitative inquiry and evaluation, labor relations, labor unions, negotiation and conflict resolution, employee selection and succession planning, sociology of work and occupation, and consulting skills.

Theinterdisciplinary nature of the management and its publicationsmeans that the boundaries of any particular subject or disciplinecannot be easily determined and described in isolation. For thepurpose of collection development, a "core area" ofspecialization within the management is defined for intensivecollection. Within this core area, collection is to research level,i.e. to a level where independent research in the published sourcescan be pursued.

CRITERIAFOR SELECTION: PRINTED MATERIALS

Withinthe financial resources available the Library's aim is to acquirebooks, journals and e-Resources of high quality in the identifiedareas of social sciences required for teaching; and to provide aselection of other relevant publications. Majority of collection isin English language with limited number of materials being added inHindi and Malayalam languages.

1)Books

Librarydoes not exclude any books from consideration, but it does exclude,if anything, works of fiction, books of readings, rehashed materialand elementary textbooks, and also books which are primarilypractitioners' tools (unless in each of these cases they are requiredfor essential course reading).

2)Journals

Thescope is theoretically as wide as for books but more limited inpractice. This is because of the continuing and escalating costs ofserial publications. Current policy is to hold periodic reviews ofserial holdings to ensure that the most cost effective collection isbeing maintained for the research and teaching needs of our users.Apart from a small selection of newspapers and news magazines theseare largely excluded.

3)Pamphlets

Sourcematerial for research in business and management includes pamphlets,leaflets, memoirs and all kinds of ephemeral material which may oftennot be of academic value in themselves but can be of potentialimportance to academic research. The Library tries to collect as muchof this type of material as possible.

4)Casestudies And Dissertation

Copiesof ASB Case studies and MBA Dissertations are kept in the Library.

6)Donations

TheLibrary welcomes gifts of books and other materials which support theteaching and research needs of ASB and which fall within theLibrary’s collection development policy.

Anyonewishing to donate materials to the Library should contact theAcquisitions Section. Wherever possible it is very helpful to supplya list of publications for checking. All donations will beacknowledged.

Materialwhich is deemed suitable will be integrated into the collectionsaccording to subject. It is not possible, except in exceptionalcircumstances, to maintain separate collections.

Materialmay not be accepted for the following reasons:

It duplicates items already in stock unless further copies are needed for the Course Collection.
It is in poor physical condition (i.e. brittle paper, water damage, writing on pages, torn and/or missing pages).
Periodicals may only be accepted if they are full runs or fill gaps in current holdings.Unwanteditems will be disposed off or passed to a weeding section of thelibrary.

CRITERIAFOR SELECTION: ELECTRONIC INFORMATION SOURCES

The Library will collect relevant material in print, electronicformat (eg CD-Rom and database), and video. Materials may bewithdrawn if superseded by new formats (e.g. CD-Rom by web basedservices).

Asregards content, electronic information sources are acquired usingthe same selection criteria applied to other formats. However,acquisition of electronic sources is also influenced by technicalissues, licensing, archiving and cost.

      ASB library acts as the main resource centre for students and faculty of the Institution and the collection mainly comprise of documents in Management and related stream of subjects. Computerised library services, availability of skilled information professionals, comfortable furniture, convenient document organisation, and information alert services are the main advantages of ASB library. The library has an extensive collection of materials in all formats--books, periodicals and CDs to be suplemented by online databases shortly.
Online Library Catalogue
    Library is fully automated using Koha Open Source library management software introduced w.e.f. January 1, 2006. Koha is a full-featured open-source ILS. Users can search, reserve and renew books using the online catalogue.
   Digital Library
cdTeN Acado digital library module is used to organise the electronic resources in the ASB Library. Acado Digital Library also has a referee system for accepting contribution of resources from users. Library resources being completely web-based can be accessed anytime, anywhere by authorized users.
   Newsletter
Library Newsletter published every Saturday delivers weekly information updates on business and management for the ASB community. The news letter covers information resources, news and online media schedule from World Wide Web.
   Online Library User Services
Online library customer services which include helping the members to access right information from the relevant website and helping them to access online journals subscribed as well as free. Members can contact library staff on any queries using Gtalk Messenger during library working hours.
